2019 Birch Coulee Fair Montevideo High School - Montevideo, MN May 15th-17th
The Birch Coulee Fair is an annual event that area schools, including KMS, participate in each spring. Industrial Technology students from each school display their projects and work from the year which are then judged by area professionals and Tech School Instructors. Areas include Woodworking, CAD, and Metalworking. Participating schools are Benson, Hancock, KMS, Montevideo, Ortonville, and YME. Schools take turns hosting the event each year with Montevideo hosting the event for 2019.
Birch Coulee Awards
Craftsman of the Year A very special award to the project which best displays the skill and craftsmanship of its creator. This award is the judge's decision and may be awarded over and above any other award. This is awarded with a plaque. Overall Instructors Award This award is voted on by discussion with the Instructors who are attending the fair. This is awarded with a plaque.
First, second, and third premiums: Any number may be awarded in each grade level upon the judge's decision. Creative Design: An award for demonstration of creative or imaginative approach to the solution of a design problem. This award is a judge's decision and may be awarded over and above another award. Ingenuity Award: A special award for a project that demonstrates facility in invention, versatility and imagination in machine processes, a new method of solving a problem, or a unique application of a scientific principle. This award is a judge's decision and may be awarded over and above another award.
